The City of North Myrtle Beach is accepting applications for an open seat on the North Myrtle Beach Tree Board. The appointment is for a four-year term and will be made by the Mayor and City Council. The Tree Board plays a key role in supporting the city’s urban forestry efforts and maintaining its Tree City USA designation. Board members work with city staff and leadership to enhance the community’s trees, environment and long-term sustainability. City tree of month showcases mistletoe

By Gianna Forbis The March Tree of the Month recognized by the North Myrtle Beach Tree Board is found at 706 Fourteenth Avenue South in front of Trinity United Methodist Church. While we are finishing up winter weather and anticipating spring blooms and new leaves, we see many bare deciduous trees such as oak, elm and maple with mistletoe growing on the branches. Mistletoe is a hemi-parasite because it sends out roots into the tree to draw nutrients and water but also produces energy through photosynthesis in its green leaves. The City of North Myrtle Beach is accepting applications for an open seat on the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA). The Board of Zoning Appeals is appointed to four-year terms by the North Myrtle Beach City Mayor and City Council. It is the board’s duty to hear and decide appeals where there is an alleged error in the administration of the Zoning Ordinance, as well as appeals for variances from the requirements of the Zoning Ordinance. Local students place first in free throw contest

By John Earnest The Knights of Columbus, Council 7122, from Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church recently hosted the Knight of Columbus District Basketball Free Throw Contest. The contest was held at the North Myrtle Beach Middle School on Sunday, February 22, 2026. Chiefs exit playoffs with 58-52 loss

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach Lady Chiefs put up an amazing battle last Tuesday night in their third round division II SCHSL playoff game with Berkley at the NMB gym but lost 58-52 to last year’s state champion. The number two seeded Chiefs came into the game with the memory of losing their lower state championship game 67-32 to the Lady Stags in Florence last year. Girls lacrosse opens season with 16-0 win

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach High School Lady Chiefs lacrosse team opened their spring schedule with a 16-0 victory over visiting West Ashley Monday night at The Hank. The Chiefs scored multiple goals in all four quarters as they kept the visiting Wildcats on defense all night, recovered most of the loose balls and had six different players score in the shutout. The Chiefs opened the game with three goals in the first quarter, four more in the second quarter, five goals in the third and four goals in the fourth quarter with a running clock. Softball team in Loris preseason tournament

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach High School Lady Chiefs softball team opened their season last week with a trip to Loris for their annual preseason tournament. The Chiefs first game was postponed due to Friday’s rain, and they opened play on Saturday against Green Sea Floyds. The Chiefs were the home team in their game against the Trojans and both teams failed to score through the first four innings of play.
