Chiefs exit playoffs with 58-52 loss

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach Lady Chiefs put up an amazing battle last Tuesday night in their third round division II SCHSL playoff game with Berkley at the NMB gym but lost 58-52 to last year’s state champion. The number two seeded Chiefs came into the game with the memory of losing their lower state championship game 67-32 to the Lady Stags in Florence last year. Girls lacrosse opens season with 16-0 win

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach High School Lady Chiefs lacrosse team opened their spring schedule with a 16-0 victory over visiting West Ashley Monday night at The Hank. The Chiefs scored multiple goals in all four quarters as they kept the visiting Wildcats on defense all night, recovered most of the loose balls and had six different players score in the shutout. The Chiefs opened the game with three goals in the first quarter, four more in the second quarter, five goals in the third and four goals in the fourth quarter with a running clock. Softball team in Loris preseason tournament

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach High School Lady Chiefs softball team opened their season last week with a trip to Loris for their annual preseason tournament. The Chiefs first game was postponed due to Friday’s rain, and they opened play on Saturday against Green Sea Floyds. The Chiefs were the home team in their game against the Trojans and both teams failed to score through the first four innings of play. Green Sea scored a run in the top of the fifth inning for a 1-0 lead and held on to that lead until the bottom of the …

Soccer teams start strong

By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach High School varsity boys and girls soccer teams are getting off to a good start in early season matches. The boys team has a 4-0 record so far. They won two matches in the Nash Tournament, 2-1 over Socastee and 2-1 over Conway. Last week the Chiefs beat Loris 3-1 and then were on the road for a 1-0 victory over West Florence. The girls team is 2-1 before this week’s action against Ashley. The girls won their first match 7-1 in the Nash Tournament but lost 6-2 against Camden in their second …

Suspension can be lifted or reduced

By Kaye Collins Qualified drivers may apply for reduced or lifted suspensions from Monday, March 9, until Friday, March 13, although fees will be incurred. Cases involving alcohol and drugs are not eligible for this program. The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) has announced that it will conduct Driver Suspension Eligibility Week throughout the state letting certain drivers in South Carolina who have suspended licenses qualify to have their penalties removed. Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday

By Kaye Collins Daylight Saving Time (DST) begins on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at 2 a.m., at which time clocks “spring forward” one hour to 3 a.m. This change results in an extra hour of light in the evening but one less hour of sleep that night as winter is put to rest and spring blooms awake.
