Saturday night fights spoil bike rally

By Ruben Lowman The final weekend of the 87th Annual Spring Myrtle Beach Bike Rally dissolved into streetfights in the North Strand, leaving multiple law enforcement officers injured and resulting in several arrests. The altercations, which occurred on the night of Saturday, May 16, forced a large-scale, multi-agency tactical response in the heavily congested Main Street commercial district of North Myrtle Beach. Ecotots receive diplomas

By Mary Templeton Everyone loves a graduation, even Mrs. Holloway’s kindergarteners at Ocean Drive Elementary School.  On Friday, May 8, the students became official Ecotots as they received their diplomas from the Yaupon Garden Club. It was also an opportunity to make a special surprise to take home for Mother’s Day. Yaupon Garden Club member Graceann Phillips began by reading “Are You My Mother” by Dr. Seuss. Chiefs lose to Chapin in district championship

By John Smtihson The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs baseball team had their backs against the wall after last Monday’s 9-1 loss to Chapin as reported in the May 14th Times. The Chiefs faced Lucy Beckham last Wednesday at The Hank in an elimination game in the 5A District 4 SCHSL Lower State playoffs. The Chiefs had to beat Beckham then travel to Chapin last Friday and win there to force a second game at North Myrtle Beach Saturday for the District 4 championship. Softball team makes finals

By John Smtihson The North Myrtle Beach High School Lady Chiefs softball team made it all the way to the SCHSL 5A Division II District 4 championship game with a 7-4 win over Conway in last Monday’s elimination game at Conway and a 1-0 loss to St. James last Wednesday at St. James. The Lady Chiefs have been in the loser’s bracket of the tournament since they lost to Conway 7-6 on May 6th. Track teams compete for state championships

By John Smtihson The North Myrtle Beach High School boys and girls track teams had a state champion and several other outstanding performances at the SCHSL State 5A Division 2 championships in Columbia over the weekend. Dylan Kempf won the state championship in the pole vault. Ny’Ray Hannah finished third in the 400 meter hurdles and the triple jump. Jaden Chestnut was fourth in the 100 meter dash.
