By Kaye Collins The Loris Lions welcomed the Socastee Braves on Friday, September 19, with the game starting at 7:30 p.m. The stands were packed with family, friends, school staff, and Lions supporters. Members of the Blue Pride made their way to the bleachers or stood at the gate to catch the game. The Loris Marching Pride Band played their ditties and the cheerleaders shouted cheers to keep the crowd energized and to motivate the players as they advanced the ball up and down the field. By Kaye Collins Horry County Police responded to reports of gunfire on the evening of Sunday, September 21, in the Longs area. Four vehicles sustained damage from bullets during what appeared to be a gunfight. Officers arrived at the intersection of Bombing Range Road and Dewitt Road around 9:30 p.m. after receiving calls about shots being fired. A witness reported hearing over 27 shots fired. Officers discovered approximately 25 shell casings, which included 40 caliber, 7.62 caliber and 45 caliber rounds, scattered along a half-mile stretch of the road, as stated in the report. By Kaye Collins South Carolina Law Enforcement is responding swiftly after a series of recent events in which state troopers were hit by vehicles while performing their duties on the roadside. During a press conference on Monday, state and local officials revealed a significant enforcement initiative regarding the state’s Move Over Law, as well as a wider effort to combat distracted driving, which includes the recently enacted Hands Over Law.
