A senior this year, John continues to shine as both a student leader and the newly appointed Commanding Officer of North Myrtle Beach High School’s NJROTC program. John stands out in the classroom for his diligence, respect and positive attitude, always prepared and willing to lend a helping hand to peers in need. By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs football team celebrated an early-season senior night in only their second home game of the season with a 24-12 victory over the visiting West Brunswick Trojans last Friday night at The Hank. The Chiefs 20 senior players and members of the Band of Chiefs and cheer team were all recognized and honored by the school and family members in the traditional senior night festivities before the game. By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach girls varsity cross country team won last Saturday’s Carolina Forest  meet held at Myrtle Beach. The Lady Chiefs won on the strength of four Chiefs finishing in four of the top five positions as they crossed the finish line in the 5K race. Fenna Hollo won the race, followed by Robyn Walsh and Ravyn Walsh in second and third. Aleha Lang came in fifth, Lucy Stalvey was twelfth and Mandy Davis was twenty-third. By John Smithson NMB High School swim team coach Kristen Henley called it “an incredible day for our NMBHS swim team” at last Saturday’s Rock the Block swim meet in Charleston. The boys team set a new school record in the 200 medley relay race with a time of 1:46.67. The boys also set a record in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:35.56. The children are putting in a lot of effort and enjoying themselves, and we are particularly thankful for the committed parents who have volunteered their time to coach our teams. By Lauren Jessie The City of North Myrtle Beach is launching a new Façade Grant Program to help enhance the appearance of select commercial corridors and support local businesses through financial partnerships for building improvements. The program is designed to encourage property and business owners to invest in the front-facing exteriors of commercial buildings along designated Activity Center Corridors, helping to strengthen North Myrtle Beach’s coastal streetscape and overall sense of place. Through the program, the City will offer dollar-for-dollar matching grants, up to $25,000 per applicant, for approved façade improvements. Funding is provided on a reimbursement basis once work …
