By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach High School girls and boys varsity teams began 6AAAAA region play last week with home and away encounters against Conway and Socastee. The Lady Chiefs opened their region schedule at home last Tuesday with Conway visiting North Myrtle Beach. By games end it was apparent to the Lady Tigers that the Lady Chiefs were not very hospitable. The Chiefs won 70-13. By Dorothy Bambach North Myrtle Beach Lions Club President Sandy Boggs was recently honored by the President of Lions  International, Fabricio Oliverira. President Sandy was awarded in recognition of distinguished achievements in fulfilling the mission of Lions Clubs International during the Lion year 2024-2026. She was cited for the addition of ten new members to the local club. This growth was largely due to President Sandy’s successful effort to begin a new Lions Club in the Loris Region under the sponsorship of the North Myrtle Beach Lions. She will continue to advise the Loris Club as a “Guiding Lion”.

The North Myrtle Beach Fire Department has approved an open burning permit application to dispose of roadway and right-of-way debris on the tract located at the end of C-Versie Road in Little River. The burn was scheduled to begin on Friday, January 9, 2026, and will continue periodically for approximately one month, concluding Monday, February 9, 2026, weather permitting. Roadway and right-of-way debris will be transported via off-road dump truck to a designated pit area onsite for burning.
