Local student wins recycled art contest

North Myrtle Beach Middle School students know how to turn trash into treasures. The school  submitted an entry to the Horry County Solid Waste Authority’s annual POP (Protect Our Planet)  Art Recycling Contest. Eighth grader Edwin Mendoza created an ocean scene made out of crayons  entitled “The World is in Our Hands”, which was selected as the grand prize winner in the Horry County Solid Waste Authority’s POP Art Contest. All-Star Teams shine at district tournaments

By Amanda Player Wofford Over the weekend of November 15–16, six all-star teams from the City of North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department competed in their respective South Carolina Athletic Programs (SCAP) district tournaments. The competing teams included 10U, 12U and 15U co-ed soccer, as well as 10U, 12U and 14U volleyball. Soccer teams traveled to Sumter, while volleyball teams competed in Johnsonville. In soccer action, the 10U team opened its single-elimination tournament with an impressive 10–0 win before falling 3–0 in the second round. NMB basketball season opens with Chiefs sweep of Trojans

By John Smithson The 2025-26 basketball season got underway last Friday night with two totally different games played at the NMB gym. The Lady Chiefs opened their schedule with a 71-13 blowout of the West Brunswick Lady Trojans, while the Chiefs had to battle back to tie their game at the end of regulation 44-44, and then won it in overtime 53-46. The Lady Chiefs started slowly on offense and were tied 2-2 with 5:43 on the clock before leading 5-3. HGTC holds forum to explore potential Loris campus

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) invited residents of Loris and surrounding communities to a Community Forum on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 5 p.m. at the Main Street Theatre at 4149 Main Street in Loris. Celebration is held for second phase of NMB Sports Complex

Officer saves child from drowning

On the afternoon of Saturday, September 27, 2025, Sergeant Christopher Bellamy was conducting a routine patrol in the Cherry Grove Beach neighborhood of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., when, by chance, he looked over to the waterway behind a residence on 33rd Avenue North and noticed what appeared to be a golf cart overturned in the waterway. Sergeant Bellamy immediately turned around to investigate the apparent incident and arrived at a residence located at 406 33rd Avenue North. By Jill Roman Driftwood Garden Club members enjoyed a fabulous lunch of salad and pizza at the home of Patricia Veltri for their November meeting. Patricia, a former flower shop owner, demonstrated how to make floral arrangements. She began by layering greenery to create a base. She then demonstrated the “3-5-8 rule” in floristry as a guideline for creating a balanced bouquet with three types of focal flowers, five stems of medium flowers and eight stems of filler flowers.
